Chalet Cascade, Chatel, Portes du Soleil in the Alps

skiing in chatel,  the french alps

Chatel is part of the Portes du Soleil Skiing area of France, which boasts 650 km of piste and connects 14 villages in France and Switzerland, including Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets, Le Croset, Morgins.

Super Chatel Chatel Village has its own Super Chatel Ski area which is accessible from the town centre by Gondola. The Super Chatel area connects Chatel with Torgon, and Morgins in Switzerland.

Linga
Linga can be found by getting on the bus for the town from the chalet, the bus usually stops at linga and then goes to the vil-lage centre. Linga is steep and can get icy as it faces southwest and melts in sunshine. The Linga Gondola takes you up to meet a new express chair which connects to the Coombes area which is our favourite area, as it is close to the Chatel and has lots of easy, and hard runs which all meet at the lifts, you cant get lost. There is also a lot of off piste skiing available here and the skiing suites all abilities. Coombes can also be accessed from Pres La Joux by the pre la joux lift.
Chatel connects with the Portes Du Soleil by the Pre la Joux ski area situated 10 minutes by bus from the centre of Chatel.

Pre la Joux
Pre la Joux is the central area for skiing in Chatel. The Pierre Longue chair takes you to Plaine Dranse where there are numerous restaurants for all meals. Our favourite as it is the cheapest but still good quality is The PLaine Dranse Restaurant down and to the left on the slopes as you get of the Pierre Longue lift.
To get to Coombes you can catch the Choux Fleury or to get to Avoriaz and the Portes du Soleil catch the rickety Teleski de Rochasson lift directly below the Pierre longue of ski down the top part of the red and catch the Teleski de Plain Dranse which is faster and more comfortable.
When you get to the top you can ski into Linderet and catch the Prolays fast 6 man chair to Avoriaz.
There are some great tree lined runs from Avoriaz back down into Linderet.

Night Skiing
Night skiing is usually on a Thursday evening at Linga and is covered under your lift pass for no extra charge,
Check at tourist information for updates.

Ski Hire
We recommend that you hire your ski`s and boots from Richards Sports, they have two shops, one is down the road towards Linga about 50m from the tourist office on the right hand side. The other is up the street towards the Cinema just past the Car parking area in the Centre of the Village, on the right.
Make sure you take one of the leaflets from the Chalet with our name on it or tell them that you are from Chalet Cascade and you should get a discount on Ski Hire and Boots.
The top shop is run by Claude who knows everything there is to know about skis and equipment. If you want to buy new skis he will let you try some and waive the cost of hire if you buy some. He will also help you get the best out of your own Skis and boots, so if you have a problem see Claude.
