RACE DEBRIEF

Another week means another episode of the Beyond The Grid podcast and this time it’s former Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Force India and HRT driver Vitantonio Liuzzi’s turn to jump into the hot seat.

Backed by Red Bull on his way to Formula 3000 title glory, Liuzzi stepped up to F1 when the Austrian drinks company entered the sport in 2005, initially sharing a drive with Christian Klien alongside David Coulthard.

He was then sent to Red Bull’s sister team, Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri), where the Italian attempted to establish himself in the sport, only for relations to turn sour and lead to the two parties going their separate ways.

In a wide-ranging chat with host Tom Clarkson, Liuzzi reveals what it was like to race for Red Bull – and the party reputation that followed them – at the start of their F1 journey, what went wrong at Toro Rosso and how his later stints with Force India and HRT compared.

He also talks about a number of missed opportunities to finish on the F1 podium and relives his famous victory over seven-time F1 title winner Michael Schumacher in the Karting World Championship finals.
